Abstract
The following article presents a part of the results obtained from a survey on the profile and professional attitudes of the journalists who work in the Basque broadcast newsrooms. It attempts to answer these questions: what do Basque broadcast journalists think about the role of journalism? What about their own social role? How should be a journalist? Why did they decide to become journalist? Do they censor themselves? Why? Is the Basque journalists' work different than other ones'? As a whole, these journalists are immersed in a contradiction among the myths of the professional ideology (objectivity, neutrality...) and the commercial needs of the journalism (to entertain the audience, e.g.); they criticize how their colleagues do work, but they show a radical lack of self-criticism, that reaffirms the individualism of this profession.
