About the Journal
Focus and scope
The editorial work of Papeles de Identidad pursues three objectives: to become a space of reference for the academic expression of theoretical and methodological proposals at the frontier of available knowledge in the social sciences; to deepen the empirical complexity of contemporary forms of identity and subjectivity; and to contribute, through a thoughtful process of selection, discussion and editing of texts, to nurture an academic life that prioritizes open discussion and quality.
Papeles de Identidad suceeds Papeles del CEIC. The journal was founded in 2001 as part of the research program of the Centro de Estudios sobre la Identidad Colectiva of the Universidad del País Vasco /Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. In its first period (2001-2006) it mainly gathered the production of the CEIC team, permanent researchers and guest researchers. In its second period (2006-2024), the journal regularly published two issues per year with original articles organized as monographs or free topics. Since 2024 with its link to the research group Kontu laborategia. El trabajo de contar en la investigación de frontera broadens the scope of its objectives.
The trajectory of the journal defines the multiplicity of its interests, which not only revolve around what constituted its founding objective, the collective identity, but also on what concerns contemporary social and human sciences when they approach their most problematic themes, objects and territories. The journal, therefore, is particularly attentive to collect works of "frontier science", i.e., those that risk placing themselves on the edges of available knowledge.
