Abstract
The amnesty law of October 1977 was a founding milestone of the Spanish democracy. The extension of its benefits to those police heads and policymakers for the repression of the dictatorship is today a matter of debate. The text analyses its causes and the political, social and historiographicaldimensions of the debate. The logic of the present applied to the past creates problems.
