GUIDE TO AUTHORS - PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
Authors are required to follow the instructions set out next during the preparation of the manuscripts.
General data
The document shall respect the following limits:
- 7000 words (including references)
- 80 references (in APA style, in alphabetical order)
- 7 medium-sized graphic elements (images and tables)
The format of the manuscript must follow the following rules:
- Manuscripts must be written in English or Basque and must be grammatically and linguistically correct.
- Symbols for physical quantities must be italized, and their units must not be written in italics.
- Equations must be labelled with successive numbers, and quoted in the text with the corresponding label, for example, "Equation (1)."
- Equations and tables should be provided in editable format — using symbols or an equation editor — and should not be inserted as images.
- Please carefully separate subtitles, superguides and special symbols. Units (e.g. V cm – 1, K, Pa, etc.) must be written in straight letters (not in italics), leaving a short interval after the preceding number.
Order of the parts of the manuscript
InpAkta is a multidisciplinary journal. Therefore, this order, which can be adapted to the needs of the manuscript, is a recommendation: title page, summary, introduction, experiment/method section, main text (including images, schemes and tables), acknowledgements, conflict of interest, authorship and contributions, and references.
Title page
The following information should appear on the title page:
- Title: The title must be accurate and informative.
- Author Information: Author(s) Name(s), Author(s) Affiliation(s), i.e. Institution (Department), City (State), Country. An active email address from the corresponding author. If available, the 16-digit ORCID number of the author(s).
- Summary: A summary of 150 to 250 words should be included. The summary should not contain unspecified abbreviation or references.
- Keywords: 4-6 keywords that can be used to index the article should be included.
Tables, images and other elements
Each table, image, equation, and scheme (Arabic numbers) must be counted in the sequence referred to in the text. When tables are mentioned in the text, the word "Table" should be used without abbreviation. The whole word "Image" must be used in all parts of the manuscript.
Vector graphics, such as graphics and diagrams, should be inserted in the manuscript and sent as high-quality SVG files. Bitmap graphic images, such as photographs and images, should be stored as JPG, TIFF or PNG files; and each image should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (1000 pixel width).
Supplementary material
Auxiliary information is not essential to the article, but provides more depth and background. Different types of auxiliary material can be used, such as multimedia files, raw data, code, etc. Save large files in compressed file format, e.g. .zip or .rar.
Acknowledgements
All sources of funding relevant to the investigation should be recognized.
Conflict of interest
When presenting a manuscript, authors must indicate whether there is a conflict of interest. To do this, a statement must be included in the manuscript presented. This statement is requested for all articles. If there is no conflict of interest, the following may be stated: "Authors do not express any conflict of interest".
Revision of the manuscript
If revision is required, the revised manuscript and a point-to-point response must be returned to ensure that the concerns, doubts, and criticisms of the reviewers have been adequately answered. The approval of the manuscript shall be effected only when the member of the board certifies that the work has been properly reviewed and that it is suitable for the InpAkta journal.
The revised articles shall be sent within two months of the revision request, otherwise they shall be treated as new submissions. If more time shall be needed, this should be communicated to the editor-in-chief.
Human and animal participation and clinical trials
Authors shall, in the section on methods, add a brief statement identifying the institutions and/or licensing committee that approves the experiments, including the reference/permit numbers (if any), or, specifying the reasons if nothing of the kind is required. For all experiments involving persons, authors shall add a statement confirming they have obtained informed consent from all participants, or, determining the causes if it is not required. In the case of animal studies, authors shall report on the species, origin, sex, and age of the animals.
Inclusive research
Social impact research should lead to progress in diversity, equity and inclusion, as it increases the likelihood of benefiting more people and communities across society. Publishers and researchers therefore have a shared responsibility and opportunity to express and analyse the diversity of communities in research (in terms of sex, age, disability or any other variable that may be significant), and to report the results of research in inclusive language.
