Abstract
«Some proposals and methodological principles for the acquisition of a second language»: In the present work we study a series of methodological principles connected with the learning of a foreign language. As we shall see, some proposals are very different from each other. But after 30 years investigating on the acquisition of a second language, it has been proved that pupils do not get lexicon or grammar structures by increasing them one by one, neither even in the order they are explained by the teacher or the book itself. In fact they get them without taking the teaching sequences nor the pedagogical points of view used in the language lessons into account. The learning is not a unidirectional process, but a gradual and cumulative one, and often partial and unfinished too. In many learning-structures there are universal sequences of interlanguage, mistakes are made in the learning processes and there are often followed non-linear paths in the shape of a U. All in all, in spite of some generalizations about the acquisition of a second tongue, the most outstanding contributions of the last investigations on this field tell us mainly the way we should not teach.
