Abstract

This paper deals with the reality (fidelity to the model) and the conventionalisms (stylisation, economy and alteration of details) in the human and animal representations of Palaeolithic art. The main thesis is that these features of these prehistoric graphics are equivalent to rhetoric devices of spoken and written language such as ellipsis, synecdoche, metonymy, hyperbole, among others.
