Abstract

Everyone recognizes in the pod race of Star Wars Episode I: the Phantom Menace the quadriga competition of the famous sequence of the Ben-Hur film of 1959, but this is not the only Roman spectacle which appears in the first two trilogies: A pompa, a damnatio ad bestias and a venatio are also present in the films of George Lucas. Are these scenes from the film based on historical documentation? On historiography on the subject? On literature? On other movies? We think it would be interesting to do a small analysis of all of them and with this work we will try to answer these questions.
