Abstract

This article shows the main conclusions of a research originated from the concern about the low consumption of paid-for dailies, which added to college students' lack of interest in reading observed by the author during years of lecturing, poses serious doubts about who will read newspapers in the future. Based on questionnaires given out to 400 students from the Universidad Complutense, it draws a map of media consumption with informative purposes by university students. It also analyses their credibility of the media and the time they spend on reading in general and newspapers in particular, as well as their motivations for reading dailies. The aim, therefore, is to verify scientifically the mentioned lack of interest and its causes, and provide solutions.
