Abstract

The hypothesis of the "Spiral of cynicism", developed mainly since 1997 Capella and Jamieson studies, establishes a relationship between media coverage about public issues and the decrease of citizenship trust on political affairs, the low participation in politics and the distrust and cynicism to politicians and politics. These authors maintain that the "strategic frame" of the media is involved in these processes. This article studies if this frame is predominant in political communication and analyse the information published during European political campaigns.
