Abstract
This article compares four models of path analysis in order to explore the role of exposure to television and other mediating variables, such as schooling, in the attitude towards social and electoral participation. The models were taken from survey data and were realised manually starting from a multiple regression analysis. The surveys analysed were carried out at the national level in Mexico, and one of which only involved children from the city of Monterrey, in the northeast of the country. Consistent with recent literature in Mexico, the data indicates that perceptions of participation do not depend on exposure to television, but to a greater extent on mediating variables, such as schooling and parental influence.
