Abstract

The cinema industries of the Latin American countries today face challenges that are greater than those of fifty years ago. These challenges arise from the growing domination of the North American programming giants in the offer on the screens of the cinema, television, video and new audiovisual technologies. However, Latin America represents, at least potentially, a highly favourable space for developing audiovisual industries that could improve the identity processes and the imaginaries of each country. It is therefore necessary to specify the importance of these activities, as well as policies directed towards the growing but still insufficient integration of the regional cinema.
