Abstract

How can a digital newspaper make the greatest use of its interactive possibilities? What alternatives for selection should it offer? What should be its interactive options of communication and expression? What would a genuine Interactive Digital Newspaper (IDN) be like? This article seeks to find answers to these questions. Interactivity is one of the main characteristics of digital newspapers, although its potential is often not fully exploited. We understand it here to be "a gradual capacity of a means of communication to give greater power to its readers in the construction of current affairs by offering him both possibilities of selection (what we call selective interactivity) and of expression and communication (what we refer to as communicative interactivity)". On the basis of this definition, we set out a series of ideas and specific proposals for the development of selective interactivity and communicative interactivity for a digital newspaper.
