Abstract

Based on some problems and dilemmas linked to the work with the archive of the Italian Argentine sociologist Gino Germani (1911-1979), recently repatriated to the University of Buenos Aires, the paper focuses on the sinuousness of identity and inheritance in a specific field of research and cultural production. To do this, taking up the notion of “discursive heterogeneities” elaborated within the field of materialist analysis of discourses, we investigate (and destabilize) a notion that functions as a pivot in classical archivistics, that of “producing subject”. In this deployment, we find different ways of interrogating the multiple identities that are refracted/reflected in personal records. Towards the end of the text, we also return to that which refuses to be represented in the archive and which overflows it as “waste” or “remains”.
