Abstract

A part of the analysis of the verbal conjugation in each of the languages considered (i.e. Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Middle and Modern Persian and the Germanic languages) by Franz Bopp in his Conjugationssystem is the study of the infinitival forms. This contribution deals with the issue of comparative linguistics as it is applied to morphological reconstruction, focusing on the infinitive forms, and compares Bopp's proposals with present day's assumptions in modern Indo-European linguistics.
