Abstract
At the end of the 19th century, a fragment of a Latin inscription, reused as a stair step and, thus, lacking a clear archaeological context, was found at the monastery of Cimiez (Nice). Hence there is not a consensus among the epigraphy scholars who have studied it neither on the dating, nor on the reading, nor much less on the metric character of the inscription. Different dates between the 3rd and the 12th centuries have been proposed, but very little has been stated on the metric form. A throughout autopsy of the piece along with a deep study provide us now with new relevant data on these issues.
