Abstract
Abstract: his work analyzes, from the information contained in the late imperial constitutions, especially in those referred to in the Codex Theodosianus, the specific significance of the population and its possible influence on the drafting of legislation. In this sense firstly we identify, on the basis of the information reflected in the inscriptiones, laws designed for either the provincials or the populus from the 4th to the 6th centuries, analyzing both words in order to detemine whether they can be used as synonyms or not. In addition we discuss the possible propaganda value that could involve this type of legislation.
