Abstract
Despite appearances, Hector… traiectus lora (Verg. A. 2,273) should not be interpreted as an instance of an accusative of respect (i.e. a Greek accusative). Its syntactic structure is similar to that of consul rogatus sententiam, where the accusative is a Direct Object governed by the passive participle; cf. also flores inscripti nomina, Verg. E. 3,106; Centauros caelati scyphi, Plin. nat. 33,155. The verbs at issue never take a double accusative, but they can take a Direct Objet either of a person or a thing. This paper analyses the linguistic factors (transitive passive, three-place verbal predicates) involved in these constructions.
