Abstract

Considering the renowned male nude in Hellenic art, this essay examines the juncture in the Greek imaginary which favoured this ground-breaking mise en scène of the human body and inquires into the juxtaposition clothed/naked as a first rate distinguishing principle in the formative process of categories such as Citizen, Woman and Barbarian.
