Abstract

At the end of the 4th century and early 5th century A.D. the Roman aristocracy was Christianized after a long and discontinuous process that not only transformed Roman society, but also the Church itself. Christianity became aristocratic and adjusted itself to the necessities and customs of the social elites. Epigraphy, as a usual means of expression of the aristocracy, played an important role in this process.
