Abstract
The location of Iliturgi has been a controversial issue from the Renaissance, which generated a large amount of false epigraphs. Among these false inscriptions there is a widely cited text, CIL II2/7, 8*, which has been basic in the historiographical tradition to determine the geographical situation of Iliturgi, but never found in epigraphical support. The article relates this text to an unpublished epigraphic monument whose photography is kept in the archives of the Centro CIL II at the University of Alcalá de Henares. The study unveils this new piece, proves that it is a false epigraph and analyzes the reasons that could have led to forge it.
