Abstract
The energy use of buildings accounts for roughly 40% of the total energy consumption in the European Union. In Spain the space heating represents the 50%, while the domestic hot water represents the 27% of the total consumption.
The aim is to analyze the economic and energetic viability of seasonal thermal energy storages in Spain. For this purpose, different energy demands will be simulated in different cities of Spain, with the aim of satisfying the 45-60% of the total demand. Moreover, as dictated by the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE), part of the demand of DHW must be satisfied by solar thermal energy. Therefore, the viability analysis of a STES is essential to promote the use of renewable energies.
