Abstract

DNA is an extraordinary material with which to build nanostructures. Going beyond its genetic importance, nucleic acids can act as programmable building blocks for nanostructures, such as DNA Origami and DNA bricks. DNA is also a molecular glue between nanoparticles, which help form DNA nanoflowers, thanks to the specific pairing between strands. This work presents different DNA nanotechnology techniques and combines them with active matter. Active matter are materials that are kept out-of-thermodynamic equilibrium and self-propel in the presence of a fuel. Here we present DNA self-assembled nanostructures that can self-propel assisted by catalytic nanomotors. This research is a step forward towards controllable transport at the nanoscale.
