Abstract
The evolution in recent years regarding the development of smart biomaterials that are able to react to external stimuli has created great interest in the field of natural polysaccharide-based hydrogels. These biocompatible and biodegradable hydrogels are not only gifted with high swelling capabilities, but have also been proven to respond to electrical, chemical, thermal and even magnetic stimuli, which enables them to be promising materials for in-situ biomedical applications.
