Abstract
An environmental stimulus can cause changes in brain neurochemistry, causing neuropsychiatric disorders. Feelings of loneliness caused by social isolation can lead to chronic stress and neuroendocrine and immunological changes. These changes could lead to a decrease in serotonin, which is common in people with depression. This article describes the advances in the neurobiology of the depression caused by social isolation.
