Abstract

This paper analyzes the current multidimensional global crisis and discusses two alternatives that are presented as solutions to it: Good Living and Degrowth. Given that, the current economic system is absolutely unviable due to its environmental and social impacts. The economic system seeks an indefinite and meaningless growth based on the exploitation and consumption of natural resources and energy and on the generation of waste within a limited biosphere. Therefore, both alternatives emphasize the unsustainability of the situation and propose a solution to the movements born in two different contexts: Degrowth in Europe and Buen Vivir in Latin America. The origin and historical development of these two movements, the description of their foundations, the strategies proposed and the criticisms received or debates raised have been investigated, concluding with a brief comparison between the two. It has been concluded that both are "two sides of the same coin", since they are movements that seek proposals to face the same unviable situation. At the same time, it is possible to appreciate, above all, contextual differences, which mark the worldview of each one and which, therefore, emerge at the time of proposing strategies. It has also been concluded that the discussions among them and the exchange of ideas can be beneficial, since the diversity of alternatives can lead to greater resilience in the face of different crises and one sustains the other.
