Abstract
RNA interference often abbreviated as RNAi, is found in many eukaryotes and is a biological process which leads to post transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) trigger by double stranded RNA (dsRNA) molecules. Downregulating the expression of specific genes plays important roles in essential processes, such as cell development and differentiation, cancer and defense against viruses. Currently, RNA interference is being shown as an increasing molecular biology technique due to its great potential in terms of its therapeutic uses. In this sense, RNAi is the subject of clinical research, with promising results in the treatment of viral infections, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
