From subjectivity to the existential territory, from the signifier to the ritornello

Abstract
No debate is as open as the one referring to subjectivity. The reason is twofold. On the one hand, it is directly linked to our definition as human beings. On the other, it is linked to our relationship with our surroundings (other people, the world, events, etc.). In recent decades, the «neuro» perspective has gained strength in this debate, as opposed to ecological and sociocultural perspectives. This text fits into the above debate and aims to reformulate the concept of subjectivity. To do so, it moves away from reductionist perspectives (such as neuroscientific and essentialist ones) and proposes a different understanding by discussing in detail the notion of existential territory coined by Félix Guattari. In this sense, it reviews the alternative approaches that have traditionally offered strong criticism of the «neuro» perspective from the social sciences (symbolic interactionism (Mead), social constructionism, and science and technology studies (actor-network theory and symmetrical turn)). In addition to this review, it points to the overcoming of traditional dichotomies (subject/object, individual/society, human/non-human) through notions such as mode of individuation and ritornelo (meaningful repetitions that structure experience).
