Abstract
This paper offers an analysis of the indigenous diplomatic institutions of the Gallic world during the Roman expansion of the decade of the 50s BC. We study the diplomatic missions sent to the Roman authority, paying special attention to the purpose and objectives of legationes, that include a wide range of situations. Secondly, an analysis of the character, structure and negotiating capacity of the embassies is proposed. The work underlines, as a conclusion, the key role played by these institutions during the 1st century BC, as well as the existence of important affinities in the field of Diplomacy among the different western Indo-European areas.
