Abstract

This paper analyses three speech acts of supplication that occur correlatively in Od. 22.312-370 between Odysseus and three of his servants, which he considers, in principle, disloyal. The sequences of speech acts of supplication present a series of syntactic and pragmatic strategies aimed at guaranteeing the success of the speaker's intentions. Here it is provided an analysis of these strategies, which will allow to determine, among other factors, the communicative style or styles of the interventions of each character. In order to do so, these three speech acts of supplication will be described from a pragmatic point of view, starting from the theory of the so-called communication style.
