Abstract

This monograph, a summary of the papers presented at the colloquium on Cults and Roman Religion in Castilla-La Mancha, which was held at the Faculty of Arts of Ciudad Real on 26-27 September 2019, and which was organised by Gregorio Carrasco Serrano, offers a state of the question, as well as a review and update on how cults evolved in the southern meseta of Hispania during the period of Roman domination. To this end, the various authors not only use the data provided by new findings, but also the considerations introduced by the most recent methodological approaches and a wide range of sources, including epigraphic, archaeological, literary, etc. The result of all this is that the subject of Roman cults in this part of the Meseta is approached from a wide variety of points of view, not only in terms of how the old gods gave way to the new ones, but also in terms of how the new religion had repercussions in many other areas, from politics to the way cities were conceived and organised.
