Abstract
Fieldwork undertaken at El Mirador cave (Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain) since 1999 has yielded a couple of potsherds with decoration similar to the so-called Cardial potery, collected from the Neolithic layers at the site. After having discarded the possibility of categorising these shards as Cardial, we present an overview of the bibliographic information available on the existence of other potsherds of this kind in the Duero and Upper Ebro basins, and propose a reflection on their origin, in order to explain their occurrence in the various contexts in which they are found.
