Abstract
One of the most remarkable "warrior steles" from Extremadura in the South-Western Iberia is conserved in Meres (Asturias). The engraved motifs on it, a manlike figure with a horned helmet, sword, spear, shield, comb and mirror as well as a quadrangular icon of uncertain meaning (Cypriot ingot, a gold plate shaped like a bull's hide…?), point us to the early phase of the arrival of pre-colonial Mediterranean influences in the south-west of the Iberian Peninsula.
The uniqueness of some of the inscribed motifs, in particular the uncommon shield with its surface covert with parallel stripes and the enigmatic four-cornered figure, gives rise to different considerations regarding their frequency and possible material and cultural affiliation.
