Abstract

The residential Architecture of the 60s adopted in every place of Europe specific features, and it is the most faithful witness of the developmentalist period that the West lived at the beginning of the last third of the 20th century. Architects of that time were convinced that residential solutions of the past did not serve to meet the new needs. So, thanks to the new planning tools, they undertook new ways to meet the high demand for housing. There was one, among these ways, that involved an added complexity regarding the organisation of the housing; according to this way, flats would be yuxtaposed longitudinally. These long blocks resorted to large corridors and walkways to get to the apartments, and around these long corridors apartments were yuxtaposed. We present three case studies that were built between 1966 and 1975 in the basque coast, that show how the three main european pathways influenced in the basque residential architecture of the time.
