The problem of the conservation of contemporary works of an immaterial, installation-based and technological nature

Abstract
Since the end of the 20th century, artistic production does not only imply the production of objects. In contemporary art there are also works that are ephemeral, immaterial and linked to action. That is why a paradox arises when establishing guidelines to be able to maintain and preserve some works that do not consist of a classical understanding of the conservation process associated with the matter and the permanence of the work against time. Hence, this problem leads to rethinking of the treatment of intangible works from the perspective of both artists and current art conservators and restorers
