Abstract
‘Memoria pétrea’ is a research project that deals with the creation of a sound art project based on the sound cartographies recorded by means of contact microphones on old slate slabs carved by hand during the 18th-19th centuries, which make up the roofs of the corrals and houses in the village of Espot in the Catalan Pyrenees. The proposal explores from the perspective of the soundscape in the process of attentive listening, through the intervention of these stone slabs by means of contact microphones. By transforming the frequencies recorded on the surface of the slates into digitally synthesised sounds (using interactive software/hardware), a large documentary archive of electro-acoustic elements derived from climatological and environmental phenomena has been generated. By relocating the slates and producing more than 10 tracks, an exhibition project has been developed.
