Abstract
This article expands on a doctoral thesis, published as in praise of lithographic practice: steelgraphy, methods and practices and based on research carried out between 2014 and 2019. The aim of the work was the systematization of cold-rolled steel as an alternative in planographic printing. We present this support as an innovation compared to traditional lithographic techniques, due to the creative possibilities it opens and to the ease of access of the material. We analyze how this initial study has taken different directions with the support of participatory practices in institutions such as Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, Colombia y Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Arizona State University, USA y Universitat Politècnica de València, España. Such concerns are investigated in the context of the numerous conceptual and technical changes occurring in contemporary printmaking. In this way, we introduce open questions regarding current design practices and concepts, presenting the different directions taken by experimental technical developments and the creative process of printing.
