Abstract
Between the so-called ‘exhibition cinema’ and video art, a term associated with a certain past condition, we seem to find a place for forms of video creation that we can provisionally designate as ‘exhibition video’. In this sense, we are interested in the treatment of temporality and the rupture of the normative flow that contemporary cinema and audiovisuals contemplate from a renewed tendency towards the staticity of the image. The recourse to the image deformed in the temporal flow by slowing down, stasis or contemplative long shots, establishes disruptive practices that propitiate what Bellour called ‘the effect of pensativity’ - and align with ideas previously proposed by Barthes and Deleuze-. The text addresses this reflexive condition by considering the dialectic that has occurred by the turn from film and video towards the photographic, which was already preceded by a process of audiovisualisation of the photographic image itself. The encounter between video-flow and photography-flow thus configures an area of time and duration where the contemporary post-narrative forms, characteristic of the contemporary exhibition space, take place.
