Laburpena

In 1668, a young woman called Antonia de Zavala sang in Eibar some offensive verses composed by Antonio de Elzarzaga, a student from the same village. As a result of this event, a criminal trial for slander was initiated. During the trial, various witnesses recited four different versions of the verses to the notary in charge of the lawsuit. These verses were transcribed in Basque, without any translation.

Although the existence of the verses was discovered in 2009 and despite their great interest, they have not been scholarly edited and studied until now, probably because of the poor condition of the file in which they have been preserved. In this work, we try to overcome this and other difficulties, and we present a critical edition of the text, together with a linguistic analysis and a study on the metric model.
