Abstract

This work analyzes the difficulty to find a univocal definition on the practice of the exchange of diplomatic gifts between cities, and the States and Rome from the beginning of the republican period. The variety of typology of the above mentioned exchanges that goes from the gift, up to the booty transfer, happening for the simple pillage or, even, for the mercantile practice it complicates very much his study, although it seems clear that it is a question of one more source of securing of economic resources on the part of Rome to which the States and cities conquered hardly could remove.
