Abstract

In this text we analyze how some current art practices based on obsolescence reflect on the nature of the contemporary image. These practices use in a coherent way a precarious and limited technology that is positioned in front of other apparently more complex technologies whose novel character, sometimes, gives them a greater value. In order to carry out this research, we start with the comparison of several contemporary artworks and their relationship with other historical technologies. The article ends with a detailed study of a practical case where some of the ideas developed throughout the text are synthesized.
