Abstract

In recent years, there has been an increase in studies on the transition to adult life of young people who have been under the protection system, but most of them have focused on labour market insertion, leaving the educational pathways they follow in the background. Likewise, we can find works that analyze the different spheres of life of these children and adolescents, but studies on the educational reality of this group are still scarce both in Spain and in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. For this reason, the aim of this work is to analyze this unknown reality, analyzing the educational itineraries of these young people who also study in Second Chance Schools. It also identifies the factors that facilitate or hinder their learning processes. For this purpose, a qualitative research methodology was designed, that is, the data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Specifically, 22 interviews were conducted with young people who had left the protection system and 15 with professionals from the Second Chance Schools. This research shows that the educational environment of this group is influenced by factors such as the weight of the family, personal situations and factors related to the educational system.
