Resumen

In this work Poza's book, De la antigua lengua, poblaciones y comarcas de las Españas ("About the Old Spanish language, villages and rural areas") is located in its time, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of its publication. In this book, the value and reasons for the famous classification of languages in Europe, made by Poza, are studied, before devoting the body of the article to the analysis and explanation of the 66 toponomies used as a proof of the extension and universality of the Basque language in the Iberian Peninsula at that time.
Poza gives valuable information about the Basque language in the XVI century, since some of his remarks are the first written documented history of the Basque language. The dialectal origins of the terms referred to are also discussed.
