Abstract

In the first issue of this digital magazine "Cabás", Antonio Montero Alcaide made a detailed and useful analysis of the so-called Moyano Law, the Law of Public Instruction enacted in 1857; the importance of this legal text in the development of education in Spain over more than a century has been highlighted in a multitude of historical studies referring to contemporary times. Born in a small town in Zamora on 30 October 1809, the public life of Don Claudio Moyano Samaniego, the signatory of the law that bears his name, basically took place at the Madrid court; nevertheless, tracing some aspects and circumstances of his person in his native land may be of interest in order to complete the figure of a personality so often cited for his work as unknown for his life. And, at the very least, it serves as a curious entertainment for an impenitent traveller in search of historical traces of the schools of other times and of the men dedicated to them.
