Abstract

This article traces the origins of toy libraries as play institutions and their particular development in the 1980s in Spain.
1980s in Spain. The social transformations that Spain has undergone over the last few decades have made the emergence of these spaces, already present in other countries, more than necessary. Thirty years after the first toy libraries opened their doors, we can look back to those initial moments to get to know the essence of this educational institution that is part of the daily life of many families, of today's children.
