Abstract

In general, sociological knowledge indicates that modernity is accompanied by functional differentiation processes. However, these processes are highly unlikely to happen and, as a result, are always prone to de-differentiation. The article aims to relate the process of dedifferentiation in the field of culture. This proposal is made using the concept of cultural conflicts and points out some Latin American cases that contribute to the controversial hypothesis of dedifferentiation.
