Abstract
This article deals with several syntactic and pragmatic aspects of the connector are (ere) in non-comparative sentences in Basque. Methodologically, this study discusses the particle are (ere) residue in Pedro de Axular's work, Gero. Taking into account the classification proposed in such corpus, this investigation focuses on the following issues (among others): The problem with the grammatical categorization (an adverb?), the distinctive semantic features (inclusion and emphasis or praise), the inclusive connector nature of the particle under study, its main pragmatic value (enumeration) and its discourse functioning (antecedency, antecedent deletion, etc.).
