«Stress drawings» Birefringent interference patterns as a visualization of the invisible strain of matter

Abstract
This article investigates the visual and conceptual potential of interference patterns generated by polarized light in birefringent plastic materials under stress. These patterns are approached as manifestations of the internal stress of matter: visual translations of invisible physical events. Through an experimental process based on artistic practice, the chromatic configurations that emerge from the internal deformations of objects, usually hidden, are analyzed. Thus, the project «Stress drawings» functions as a graphic record archive that condenses invisible dynamics of strain, proposing a reflection on the limits of perception to explore another vision of matter through experimentation with light.
