Abstract

This paper examines the urban design proposals under sustainability criteria undertaken in two areas bounded from the American State of Oregon, Springwater and Glen Creek, belonging to the cities of Gresham and Salem respectively. Solutions are grouped in three areas primarily; urban development taking into account the landscape and natural features of the place, mobility, and the supply, management and treatment of resources such as water, energy and waste. These approaches are driven within the Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI) of the University of Oregon, which already has several awards and a wide application future in countries like China. With that came the Sustainable Cities Initiative Program Year (SCYP). And under this program, which is characterized by multiple disciplines and encompasses different scales, different careers and courses that focus on professor effort and passion of students in the task of raising actions for sustainable development of cities applied, each academic year to a city to that establishes the appropriate participation and collaboration agreement between the University and the municipality concerned.
