Abstract

The city is presented to the citizen as a doubly constructed object. As a physical object is the result of continuous constructions and destructions, an object in process that keeps the memory of the interventions that provide its urban form. But the city is also a symbolic object. The result of an imaginary work that projects itself in the built urban space, transforming it into a stage in which the social drama of the meeting with the other, with strangers and the alterity, is represented. The 'Guerín-Mekas filmic correspondences' (2011) walk through this double imaginary and urban experience, by an exchange of letters in the city imagined by the cinema, an expanded space wherein the spectator is incorporated as a participant in a kind of dialogue of many voices.
