Resumen

Surgida para imaginar los posibles futuros de sociedades sumidas en un vertiginoso proceso de cambio, la ciencia ficción no tardó en incorporar a sus tramas la compleja cuestión de la identidad. En este artículo se muestra cómo, tomando el testigo de la literatura de horror victoriana, el género nacido de la revolución industrial y de la aceleración social actualizó en un contexto de creciente tecnificación de la vida cotidiana los temas del Doble, de la personalidad escindida y otros motivos que exponían los pliegues y fisuras del Yo burgués. Mediante figuras de la Otredad como el alienígena, el robot, el mutante o el clon, la ciencia ficción escenificó pesadillas de despersonalización, acompañó el proceso de descentramiento del sujeto cartesiano e iluminó la constitución y deconstrucción de las representaciones de los actantes sociales. Valiosos documentos de los cambios habidos en la subjetividad contemporánea, sus narraciones nos ayudan a repensar los límites de la identidad humana, personal, genérica o étnica.
